Vermont Quilt Show
Registration at the Vermont Quilt Show & Festival
Vermont Quilt Festival - Essex Junction, Vermont
In July 2007, Jo and I attended "VQF 2007" - the 31st annual Vermont Quilt Festival, billed as New England's Oldest and Largest Quilt Event. We were drawn to this event because of its maturity and popularity and its photography guidelines aren't as restrictive as the AQS Paducah Show so we could get better web journal coverage than we can at Paducah.
We were not disappointed. The show was excellent, drawing entries from all over the country, including some from Wisconsin. Jo recognized many of the names of people who taught classes and presented seminars. While many of the classes were held at St. Michael's College, the quilt exhibits and main show attractions were at the Champlain Valley Expo Center, where parking was convenient and free. Over 400 quilts filled two large exhibit halls. The day we attended, we were fortunate to catch a special narrated tour of antique quilts by Richard Cleveland who was one of the founders of the festival. Complimenting the quilt exhibits were over 70 quilt vendor booths.
The 2017 Vermont Quilt Festival will be held June 23 - 25, 2017 at Champlain Valley Exposition Essex Junction, VT. http://www.vqf.org/

Best of Show
The "Best of Show" went to Lynda Smyth of Sittsville, Ontario for a large bed quilt she machine pieced and machine quilted with her Bernina machine.

Some of our favorites
< < < This quilt by Nancy Bell of Hollis, New Hampshire won second place ribbon in the large pieced bed quilt contest and also top honors for "Quilt with the Best Border Treatment."
< < < Lillian Dembeck of Easthampton, Maine was awarded a red ribbon for large pieced bed quilts for her quilt entitled "Rhapsody in Green." The close-up gives a little better impression of its 3D effect!

Laurene Beth Bowers created this Large Pieced Wall Hanging based on Robert Seikowitz's painting "Screened Porch." She used her computer to generate a pattern from the painting (approved by the artist).
< < < This close-up view shows an example of the over 30,000 pieces required for this quilt. |
This small bed quilt was created by Donna Hamill for her ninth grandchild. It is an adaptation of Florence Petro's Calico Garden on display at the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne Vermont.
< < < A close-up view of Donna's quilt shows why she won a second place award in her show category.

The original Dresden Plates were made by Dianne Perdue Lillie's great-grandmother, her great-aunt, and her grandmother Kathryn in Little Chute, Wisconsin. Coincidentally Jo is finishing an antique Dresden Plate quilt whose blocks were made by her grandmother in Plain, Wisconsin.
A close-up view of Dianne's quilt which won a third place award in her show category. > > > |
