Quilt Shows

Sewing & Quilting Expo

UW Platteville Sewing & Quilting Expo
Platteville, Wisconsin
August 2 – 3, 2013

This was my first time attending this quilt show. When I got the details on this year’s show (the 25th anniversary) I noticed that on Saturday they offered a “Sew Craftacular” workshop for young people 8 years old and up for $15. This program was offered through a grant from the Wisconsin Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. My niece’s two older children (8 & 12) have been asking me for a number of years to teach them how to machine sew. I thought what could be a better way to have them learn to sew than from an experienced instructor. So I signed them up for a beginning sewing class in the morning and the project class in the afternoon.

Both kids enjoyed the morning class but the older one begged off going to the afternoon session because he was embarassed by being the only boy in the class. But his sister Kylah did attend the afternoon workshop and loved it. She is ready to go back again next year.

Here are a few pictures from the show.

The college's classrooms were ideal for quilt show classes and workshops and lots of convenient parking nearby

The Vendor Area at the show. Not as many vendors as some other shows, but a good selection
